This time we apply our idea of alternating bass notes to the F major chord. Again, notice that essentially what we are doing is playing an inversion of the chord by changing the bass note. The first chord position we learned to use in our waltz was the root position (from low to high 1st, 3rd, and 5th note of the scale from which the chord comes). By playing the second bass note lower we are playing the chords in second inversion (from low to high 5th, 1st, and 3rd note of the scale from which the chord comes).
