In this lesson we will learn about the fundamental building block of tonal music: the major scale.
In this first case we will use the C major scale. This is because it is the first, easiest one to learn as it is the white keys of the piano.
Every major scale has the same forumla which is a series of notes with specific intervals in between them. The intervals are either whole steps (WS) or half steps (HS):
1 - WS - 2 - WS - 3 - HS - 4 - WS - 5 - WS - 6 - WS - 7 - HS - 1
Notice that all intervals are whole steps (WS) except between notes 3 - 4 & 7 - 1, which are half steps (HS).
