Let's learn a simple waltz in the key of C major!
We will start my learning the left hand patterns. The defining characteristic of a "waltz" is it's rhythmic pattern of 3's. The "thing" that makes a piece of music a "waltz" is that it is in 3/4 time - it is counted 1, 2, 3, 1, 2, 3, and so forth.
In order to do this we will play a C in the bass with the left hand pinky on the first beat. Then the E & G above this C with the left hand middle finger and thumb for the second and third beats.
This establishes our waltzing rhythm!
