In this lesson we will learn about the next building block of tonal music: the major chord.
A major chord is built from a major scale. All major chords have the same forumla:
First note of scale (ONE)
2 whole steps up to ---
Third note of scale (THREE)
1 and a half steps up to ---
Fifth note of scale (FIVE)
Conversely, minor chords have a different formula:
First note of scale (ONE)
1 and a half steps up to ---
Third note of scale (THREE)
2 whole steps up to ---
Fifth note of scale (FIVE)
